But then it ends up being a Shin Megami Tensei game that doesn't really give you much choice (the chaos and law ends are basically quick bad ends). They want you to choose the neutral route so badly, and of course, it makes sense, the game was built around that. And the game won't make you forget that for a second, constantly they mention friendship and what humanity can do on its own and yada yada yada. This game chooses to toss aside the Law and Chaos of the original and go for a more Neutral route. Ima make this quick the story made me cringe so much. I would have loved to see more stuff like that (Also fuck that last dungeon, dragging on and shit). Although one boss in that dungeon did make use of its weakness, getting stronger each time you abused it, really giving the player the thought of whether or not they want that next action point. And what's up with most bosses having weaknesses? But by the second to last dungeon, I was genuinely shocked that the bosses still had some weaknesses (1-2), it's just not common for bosses to still carry these by end game. This game in general feels sorta unfinished at times, as most chests contain completely different items than what they say, some dialogue not being translated minor stuff like that. I played on an original 2ds but even then the original SMT IV had no issues pulling up the menu in a less delayed fashion. Something I immediately noticed playing Apocaplyse was the slower menu. Every other positive I had for the original still stands for this title as well. And if that wasn't enough they introduced a clear depiction of skill affinities, letting you see what skills are best for them. ![]() But we give the highest pedestal to the man who saw the quest system in the original and destroyed it, creating it to that the side quest are automatically given to the player instead of the player having to seek them out at separate hunter associations around Tokyo. QoL features that were painfully missing, such as skill slot arrangement, the total price of relics collected, partners are far more useful, estoma isn't a joke, shops (in kinshicho) update their items., and the goddamn map was improved! Three cheers for the man who improved the horrid map of the original. Let's start with the positives because this game is a huge improvement over the original. 111h 10m PlayedNow that's a final boss, maybe a bit too many almighty skills but it will do.
